The term Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) was coined in 2010 to encompass different agricultural practices that aim to sustainably increase productivity, enhance resilience, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In Latin America, CSA-related practices have been implemented for many years, nevertheless, they are often adopted unsystematically and the ratio of use among farmers remains low. Generally, there is a lack of evidence to compile the lessons learned so far at the regional level, identify favorable enabling environments, and outcast the ongoing work and research developed in this area.

The Latin American Workshop for CSA aims at generating a platform in which researchers, practitioners and stakeholders can present and discuss the work and development of 7 sub-themes related to CSA implementation. The Workshop will include contributions from the following CSA subfields and related areas:

  • Empowering farmer and consumer organizations, women and youth
  • Digitally enabled climate-informed services
  • Climate-resilient and low-emission practices and technologies
  • Innovative finance for CSA adoption
  • Reshaping supply chains
  • Developing enabling policies and institutions
  • CSA-based Bioeconomy and Circular Economy initiatives

Due to Covid-19, the Workshop will take place online. Sessions will be 'live’ so presenters and participants can interact directly. Participation is free of charge.
Submissions for Selected Presentations must include a two-page, single-spaced abstract that provides a clear explanation of what will be presented at the Workshop. Presenting author and co-authors should include in this abstract a discussion of the relevance of the topic, research methodology, and potential for generating discussion during the meeting.

The organizing committee will make an award for the best contribution of the Workshop. All selected contributions will be included in a Book of Abstracts.
